Is happiness achievable?
Is been brought up quite frequently lately that I haven't been myself. That I don't look as happy as I usually am. Well, to tell you the truth I haven't been for quite some time, but wait... was I ever? Or was I just content? Now, hang in there, this isn't a rant; just a simple revelation. Here comes the rhetorical question for everyone:
Have any of you ever really/truly been happy?
Now, I'm not talking the -Oh, thats funny- or the -That makes me glad for a little bit- kind of happy. I'm talking the definite and lasting happiness. Aren't we all just waiting for it? I mean as a child we are so certain that happiness will arrive with our 16th birthday and the ability to drive. Then that passes, and we are certain in high school that happiness will come when we get to college. That passes, and as a college student we dream of the perfect job. Then when we get in the job market we assume happiness will come with a family. When we have a family we look forward to retirement and our kids being out of the house... what comes next? Death!?!
Aren't we always waiting on happiness to come?
Do we ever achieve it?
Will any of us ever really be happy?
Or is this all some cruel joke, like Sarah brought up tonight?
Maybe its just my realist tendencies, but I'm more inclined to believe that everything could....in fact....be....pointless.
Now, all I have to do is "WAIT"and see if someone or something can change my mind.
....sigh.....

Well, that's assuming that you aren't happy in between those moments. Just because something else makes me happy, doesn't mean I'm not already happy. It could be a continuation of things. The car, then the job, then the family. But in general if you are waiting around for things to make you happy, you are going to be disappointed. Happiness is a state of mind, not a possesion. Those are my thoughts anyway...Casey

We are not perfect, therefore life is not going to be perfect for anyone. If life were truly perfect then we would be happy all the time, and there would be no reason for us to be unhappy whatsoever. Thus, since life is not perfect, it is inevitable that there will be time when we are unhappy with some aspect of our lives.
I think if you really take a look around, you'll see there are plenty of things in this world that bring you happiness. They could be talking to a friend that you haven't seen in years, trying something new and exciting, or even it just being a nice day out. If you really think about it, I bet there are a lot of things that make you happy, but if you look too much at the things that make you unhappy, then that is simply no way to live life. I can only think of one thing worse than going through life unhappy, but I won't get into that.
So basically what I am trying to say is, if you run into a bad day, week, etc., that is perfectly natural. However, if you really look back at all thing things in this world that bring you happiness, that is what will help you pull through the down times.

Happiness is too fleeting, anyway. You have to look for more meaning in life.
